The National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) was established in 1963 by Proclamation 206 and began operation in January 1964. Prior to that, the Bank conducted both commercial and central banking functions. The proclamation increased the Bank’s capital to Ethiopian Dollars 10.0 million and granted it broad administrative autonomy and legal personality.
Today, as the financial sector grows rapidly, efficient and effective management is more critical than ever. In response, the National Bank of Ethiopia is expanding by constructing branches in selected cities. To support this effort, the Bank is hiring skilled professionals for the following positions.
Position 1: Financial Management Specialist
Job Requirements:
- 1st degree or above in Accounting, Accounting and Finance, Banking and Finance, or related fields
- At least 6 years of progressively responsible experience in a major company, government, or NGO
- Minimum 4 years of experience implementing World Bank-funded projects/programs
- Knowledge of the World Bank’s Client Connection system
- Preference for CPA, ACCA, or CMA certification holders
- Strong analytical and communication skills
- Proficiency in spreadsheets and databases
- Fluency in English and Amharic
- High integrity, systematic work style, and ability to work under pressure
Place of Work: Addis Ababa
Position 2: Procurement Specialist
Job Requirements:
- 1st degree or above in Economics, Management, Accounting, Business Administration, Procurement and Supply Management, or related fields
- At least 10 years of experience, including 5 years in senior procurement roles
- Proven knowledge of World Bank procurement guidelines and Ethiopian procurement regulations
- Experience in training and capacity building
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint
- Excellent written and spoken communication in English and Amharic
- Strong analytical and report-writing skills
Position 3: Manager – Project Implementation Unit
Job Requirements:
- 1st degree or above in Business Administration, Public Administration, Economics, Management, or related fields
- At least 10 years of progressive experience in managing projects of similar scope, preferably with World Bank or donor-funded programs
- Experience coordinating with government agencies, financial institutions, and development partners
- Strong leadership and management skills in diverse, multicultural environments
- Analytical knowledge in economics and financial development
- Familiarity with Ethiopia’s banking policies and regulations
- Proficient in project management tools and IT applications
- Strong communication, networking, and teamwork skills
- Ability to work independently under pressure and meet tight deadlines
- Fluency in English and Amharic (written and spoken)
