Background

WFP Ethiopia works with the Government and humanitarian partners to strengthen the resilience of Ethiopia’s most vulnerable communities, supporting food assistance programmes that empower women, respond to climate change, and ensure children remain in school. Given the evolving food insecurity and humanitarian challenges, WFP’s logistics operations continue to expand in volume, coverage, and complexity.

The Logistics Officer will play a key role in coordinating upstream and downstream pipeline planning, ensuring timely and efficient supply chain operations to support food assistance objectives.


Job Purpose

Reporting to the Head of Operations, the Logistics Officer will oversee daily supply chain pipeline planning and coordination, ensuring an integrated supply chain approach in partnership with Programme, Budget & Programming, Partnerships, and key supply chain functions.


Key Accountabilities

  • Lead and manage the Pipeline section and its daily activities.
  • Supervise junior staff and ensure tasks align with organizational objectives.
  • Coordinate planning and supply chain pipeline management for the country office.
  • Support development and implementation of logistics procedures in compliance with regional strategies.
  • Implement innovative logistics initiatives to ensure cost-effective and timely supply of food assistance.
  • Coordinate dispatches, food transfers, and replenishment planning.
  • Liaise with customs, transport, and internal/external stakeholders to ensure smooth cargo clearance and movement.
  • Analyze operational data and prepare accurate reports to support decision-making.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with UN agencies, NGOs, governments, and the private sector.
  • Represent WFP Logistics in meetings with stakeholders.
  • Conduct corridor analysis and propose strategies for efficiency improvements.
  • Perform financial analysis and optimize budget use.
  • Ensure timely reporting, documentation, and pipeline execution.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience

Education:

  • Advanced University degree in Transport Economics, Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, Business Management, or related field.
  • OR First University degree with additional years of related work experience/training.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 year postgraduate professional experience in supply chain planning/S&Op.
  • Technical expertise in planning tools is required.
  • Experience working with interagency partners in emergency/non-emergency response.
  • Experience in team leadership.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and planning skills.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment.
  • Resourcefulness, initiative, and teamwork.

Language:

  • Fluency (Level C) in English (oral & written).
